April 2010

I made Ady's cuddle blanket a little while back. After I found out the gender I bought the right yarn to tie it with and tied it shortly after.

Nearly 5 weeks ago after finding out Ady was indeed a girl I bought the crib quilt materials I needed and then they sat on my dresser until last night, LOL

I stayed up late tonight because I got the urge to finally sew the quilt together that had been sitting on my dresser while I got the courage up to tackle it. I've been so afraid I was going to screw it up.

I wanted to make one because my step-mom had made Jaylen a crib quilt and I absolutely loved and adored it! I had hoped she would make one for Evan when he was born but she didn't, so he's been using Jaylen's pink crib quilt since he was born.

I wanted Adelyn to have one of her own and didn't think I could count on step-mom to make one this time so I got the materials together and made my own based on the one she made Jaylen.

This is what it looks like (click the second one for the larger image)

Now that it's done I am thinking of making one for Evan now.

This is also Ady's cuddle blankie. (click larger image)

Since my first baby I have made each of my kids a little blankie. Well really I started making them after Rachel was born and I made Sariah and Rachel's together. Sariah was a little over 1yr old and Rachel was just a baby. But ever since then I made each baby a blanket before they were born.

This blankie has special meaning because it was the fabric I had picked out for the baby I miscarried. I hadn't gotten around to making it by the time I miscarried at 10 weeks, but I held onto the fabric and materials for the "next time". I was reluctant to make it at first but once I hit the 2nd trimester and found out we were having a girl I made the blanket finally.

The cuddle blankies are a lot smaller and lighter than the crib quilt too. My kids have used them for so many different things. Lap blankets in the car during the winter, forts, doll blankets, and so much more. I got to say it's the one thing each of them have kept without losing, well except Rachel. :( Sadly her original blankie was lost when we moved from AZ to MI. I had a friend get it out of the place we left and she was supposed to send it to me but never did so I finally made her a new one, but that was like 7 years ago.

So that's my LONG blanket story for you all.

Thanks for reading and looking.
