Vaccinations

Yes, we have chosen to not vaccinate at this time. Sariah was vaccinated up to the age of 2 and Rachel up to the age of 1. We had watched the 20/20 show about vaccination dangers before Sariah was born and at that time considered not vaccinating at all. But some family members had kind of pushed us to believe that vaccinations were not that bad and perfectly safe. Still I had this gut feeling that maybe they really weren't all that safe. But I trusted and took some faith in believing those family members.

Looking back I may have had some blazing clues to some vaccination problems but kept turning the other cheek. Sariah after her 6mo shots (which she got late) ended up with a febrile seizure shotly after that series. Rachel, however was the one that changed our minds forever. I hated everytime we went in for well baby checks and especially the vaccinations. Whenever they got vaccinated I just never felt right or okay about them. But I did them because we were "supposed" to, and my mind would ALWAYS drift back to that 20/20 episode.

Rachel would always have a side effect after her shots, and my fear was that one of the vaccines was going to give her what we were trying to protect her from, or even worse kill her. Then during her 1 yr series, the MMR, she again got that classical fever but then also got roseola as well, which is a mild form of the measles. At that point I decided to no longer vaccinate until I got more information. Since then the more information I have researched the stronger my choice is to not vaccinate.

Joe and I have not given up on vaccines altogether and may someday change our minds but at this point in time we will not be vaccinating our children at this time.

FAQ about our Vaccination Choice

Q: Don't they need to be vaccinated to go to school?

A: NO!!! (Michigan State Laws on Vaccinations); Many administrators and even doctors may tell you that you need them in order to go to school but that is simply not the case. In Michigan waivers are required to be submitted if you have chosen not to vaccinate (the following vaccines included in the required waiver are: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Polio, Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Haemophilus influenzae type b (pre-school child care programs only), Varicella (chichen pox) ) and your child is going to attend one of the following: a licensed daycare, public or private school, many summer camps, and even some colleges and universities.
